AC Drain Line Problems in Florida Homes

By Scott Camire, Owner | A/C Advantage Inc.June 2026

Condensate drain lines are one of the most common sources of Florida AC problems. Your system removes moisture from the air every time it runs. That water has to go somewhere. When algae, dirt, and debris clog the drain, water can back up around the air handler and damage ceilings, walls, flooring, or equipment.

Warning Signs

Watch for water near the indoor unit, a float switch shutting the system off, musty smells, repeated drain pan issues, or humidity that feels worse than normal. A system that keeps stopping during hot weather may be protecting the home from water damage.

Why Maintenance Helps

Drain line checks are a normal part of residential maintenance. A technician can clear the line, inspect the pan, test the safety switch, and look for reasons the problem keeps returning. If your AC has not been serviced in six months, drain trouble is one more reason to schedule it.
